How does biochar work?
- It has a cationic exchange capacity which enables biochar to bind to positively charged nutrients and/or contaminants.
- Its tightly bound composition stabilises and contains the carbon instead of leaking into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide.
- It is very porous and just one gram of quality biochar can have the equivalent surface area of a football field.
This enables biochar to interact with other beneficial “stuff” depending on what you want to use it for – water retention, housing soil microbes, bacteria and fungi.
Benefits of using Dad’s Farm Biochar
- Specifically designed for soil enhancement by increasing the nutrient and water retention in soil.
- Retaining beneficial biology already in soil, moderating acidity and generally improve soil texture and content.
- When combined with nutrient rich matter (compost, compost tea, manures) it has shown to drastically improve plant productivity reducing chemical fertiliser requirements.
